About South Valley Performing Arts

How to Create a Video Audition

Slate

  • State your first and last name
  • Include your age (if under 18)
  • Share the role you’re auditioning for
  • Tell us the song you’ll be performing
  • Speak clearly, confidently, and naturally

Vocal Audition

  • Prepare 30 seconds to 1 minute of a song that highlights your vocal strengths. Usually a verse and a chours.
  • Use a plain or simple background with no distractions
  • Wear clean, simple clothing (no logos); hair out of face
  • Show emotion and connection to your song
  • Use a “singer’s mouth” for clear, supported sound
  • Keep gestures minimal and intentional
  • Stand tall with good posture- confidence

Acting Monologue

  • Prepare and memorize a short 30 second to 1 minute monolgue.
  • Film against a plain background
  • Dress neatly and simply (no logos)
  • Focus on storytelling and character intention
  • Use facial expressions and eye focus to connect
  • Don't be afraid of vocal inflection to show emotion
  • Keep gestures purposeful and minimal
  • Stay grounded—avoid unnecessary movement

Choreography

  • Wear comfortable, fitted clothing you can move in
  • Hair out of face; clean, distraction-free background
  • Perform the dance, don’t just execute steps
  • Use facial expressions and energy throughout
  • Fully finish every movement with confidence
  • Stay in character through the very end
